19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first title following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one various events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an better service.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He rescued 4 early chances in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
